Read our top 6 tips for creating a sacred space for relaxation and contemplation during infertility to help your mind and body relax.

Whilst trying to conceive your mind is often racing and it’s hard to relax. Even at home, it can be hard to feel calm and find the space for reflection or contemplation.

It can really help to create a sacred space or nook where you can download all your thoughts, think about your options or even have a little cry. It’s a private space where you can let go, meditate and find some peace amongst the chaos.

What is a sacred space?

A sacred space can be anything you want it to be but ideally, it needs to be private, quiet and calming. It doesn’t have to be a large space – just a corner of a room, window seat or even a space in your garden / outdoors.

Top 6 tips for creating a sacred space during infertility

1. Find the RIGHT space

It’s important this is a space you feel comfortable in and can relax fully. Choose somewhere you can shut off from the rest of the house and that you can leave untouched to return to when you want to.

2. Screening

It can help to screen off your space so you can create a cosy space and are not distracted by other things. You could use a stand-alone screen, simple curtain or move some furniture to create a barrier. This just helps to create the right feel for your sacred space

3. Seating

Another essential element is having the right seating. You want to be comfortable and if possible able to recline or lie down to relax fully. This could be a cosy armchair, hammock or sofa.

4. Display area

When we talk about creating a sacred space, many people talk about making an altar. All this really means is displaying some objects that are important to you and help you connect with yourself, your goals, memories or nature. This could be photos, candles, incense burners, natural elements like shells. Find a shelf or table that you can display your special objects and can use them as a visual focus when sitting in your sacred space

5. Plants / Flowers

Bringing in some natural elements can really help to set the mood for your space. Flowers can really bring it to life or a plant can exude calm.

6. Music / Lighting

One of the best ways to create the right ambience for your sacred space is to use low lighting like candles and play some calming music or meditation tracks. This will instantly create the right atmosphere for you to relax

Enjoy creating and spending time in your sacred space! It’s vital you can find ways to relax, reduce stress, process thoughts and to take down the mask you often have to wear during the day.
