‘Dan the Man’ shares his fertility story and reaches over 10,000 shares

Last year, Dan Majesky wrote a long, hilarious and heartbreaking post on Facebook about the fertility journey he and his partner Leah were going through.

Why his post was so popular

It was so open, honest, funny and downright depressing at times. As you read it, your heart goes out to them riding the fertility rollercoaster; experiencing the joys of semen collection, the disappointments of negative pregnancy tests and the wretched curse that is miscarriage.

To me, there are two reasons this fantastic post gained so much attention online:

1. We just don’t talk about these things online! We post all about our glossy lives across social media but the silent heartbreak that is infertility goes undetected and unsaid. There’s still a stigma around talking about it and for many people, it’s just too private for the online world

2. It came from the male perspective. If you think about what you have read about infertility, the fertility bloggers out there and the TTC tribe on Instagram, the vast majority are women. For most of those women, there’s a man standing next to them going through the same hell. We know that men experience infertility a bit differently to women but it’s no less painful and men need to be supported too.

It takes courage to speak out about infertility

I’m a big ‘Dan Fan’ for having the courage to speak up and out to his friends and the online world. It was amazing to see the hundreds of supportive comments and by opening up the conversation, Dan and Leah found so much support and other people in their lives who were silently going through infertility too.

Your Fertility Hub is passionate about opening up the conversation on infertility, taking the silent heartbreak out of millions of homes so we can make it easier to talk about, get support and start creating a more fertility-friendly world out there so your journey is that little bit easier.

Read his story and reach out for support for you

So definitely go and read Dan’s story here and perhaps think about widening your support network as often support and similar experiences come from unexpected sources nearby and can provide a world of difference to you.
